Bangkok Explorer 9
Bangkok Explorer 9: Bang Krachao Island and Koh Kret Island
Full Day Tour / Private Tour / Lunch Included
Enjoy the peace and fresh air in 'the other Bangkok'.
You will drive to Bang Khun Tian, the southernmost district of Bangkok, bordering the Gulf of Thailand. After arriving at the Wat Klong Toey Nok temple, you will cross the Chao Phraya River by longtail boat and find yourself in a completely different world, known as the 'green lung' of Bangkok. You will find virtually no traffic and foreigners here. A bicycle is rented on this 'island in the Chao Phraya River'. In a lush green landscape, you will cycle on narrow landscaped paths along the water that forms a network of canals. As you explore, you will see local residential communities, wooden houses on stilts, fish, shrimp, crab farms, local temples and small orchid and orchid farms.
After lunch at a local restaurant, you will visit Koh Kret, a fun island in the middle of the Menam River in the northernmost district of Bangkok. There are no cars here and there is an authentic rural atmosphere. It is therefore very nice to walk through the characteristic markets and through the small hamlets. The island is home to the largest ethnic Mon community, originally from Burma (Myanmar). You will find here some temples built in Mon style and several shops that sell the special Mon pottery. After visiting Koh Kret, you will take the Chao Praya Express boat (river taxi) back to the center of Bangkok. Enjoy the cool breeze on board and the view from the river. At the end of your tour, you will be returned to the hotel.
Prices are per person and on request.
