Day 1: Chiang Mai - Doi Mae Salong - Chiang Rai (approx. 240 km)
From your hotel in Chiang Mai, drive to the Chiang Dao Caves. In Thaton, near the border with Myanmar, you can enjoy the beautiful view over the valley of the Maekok River. After lunch, drive through the Doi Mae Salong Mountains and visit the Akha and Yao hill tribes. You will stay 1 night in Chiang Rai in a nice centrally located hotel.
Day 2: Chiang Rai – Doi Tung - Golden Triangle (approx. 80 km)
After breakfast, you will make a stop in Chiang Rai at Wat Rong Sua Tan (the 'blue temple') and the King Mengrai Monument. .15 kilometers north of Chiang Rai you will visit the unique Baan Dam Museum, also called "Black House Museum" or "Black Temple". In the Doi Tung Mountains you will take a walk through the Royal Project with the botanical gardens of the Royal Villa, the beautiful Mae Fah Luang Gardens. In Mae Sai on the border with Myanmar you will make a photo stop at the border crossing. After lunch you will take a boat trip on the Mekong River in the Golden Triangle. You visit the interesting House of Opium and from the viewpoint you have a beautiful view of the mighty Mekong River and the mountain landscape behind it. You stay 1 night in the Golden Triangle
Day 3: Golden Triangle - Chiang Rai (approx. 180 km)
In Chiang Saen you will visit the ruins of the 800 year old Wat Chedi Luang. You follow the border with Laos and the Mekong River and you can enjoy beautiful views. After visiting Chiang Khong, the official border crossing point to Laos on the Mekong River, you continue to Doi Pha Tang. This spectacular mountain region is home to many ethnic minorities including the Hmong, Yao and Chinese Haw. You will visit some authentic villages here. After lunch, drive to the Phu Chi Fah Cliff. This famous cliff is located at 1400 m above sea level on Thailand's border with Laos. A short walk will take you to the viewpoint. You will stay 1 night in Chiang Rai.
Day 4: Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai (approx. 190 km)
After breakfast you will visit the famous and photogenic Wat Rong Khun, also known as the 'White or Snow Temple'. Then you will take a walk through the jungle to the beautiful Khun Korn waterfall. The return journey is on the scenic Doi Saket mountain route, with another stop at the Mae Kachan hot springs.
